A Vinitaly to remember: for its huge attendance (in general and at our stand), for the excitement in the air and, from our point of view, for the excellent products offered to our visitors. #panizziexcellence.
Simone Niccolai, the owner of Panizzi, was on the front line: "We have worked tirelessly to let all visitors try our new and old vintages, providing tastings of true excellence, one for all our Vernaccia di San Gimignano Riserva 2000".
Our winemaker Walter Sovran was there every day of the fair: "Vinitaly is more and more a time when we probe the appreciation of our wines from clients, as well as an opportunity for sales, and this year we are particularly pleased with the results".
The point of view of Susanna Santini, sales manager of the company: "The flow at the stand was constant: importers around the world (Germany, USA, east and northern Europe and so on), journalists and social media influencer, generating many interesting contacts to be exploited as soon as possible. The peak day was Monday, when even restaurateurs and wine bars have come forward".
Here are the highlights of these successful three days in Verona.
First highlight: the blind tasting
"If you liked the new vintage of Vernaccia di San Gimignano, guess what year this is". Thus a bling tasting began for all visitors of our stand willing to play along. What would you win by guessing the old vintage? Of course the possibility of taste another one. By doing this simple game, we uncorked, among others, a Vernaccia di San Gimignano 2001 that surprised everyone, including ourselves, for its quality after fifteen years of bottle aging, confirming the potential longevity of our Tuscan white wines that has nothing to envy to any other white wine around the world.
Second highlight: the new vintages
We did not expect such a great success for our Passito di Toscana IGT, presented for the first time to the general public. Combined with some excellent gastronomic products available at our stand (red onion jam, grana padano and pecorino cheese of the best quality), this wine, in his first vintage, rocked: the initial skepticism towards the Tuscan sweet wine left space simply to a great enthusiasm. Even the last bottled rosé Ceraso has been highly valued for the freshness of its aromas and the beauty of its color.
Third highlight: the mysterybox
Unknown is its content until the opening of the fair, this create of excellence was on display at our booth with three old vintages of Vernaccia di San Gimignano Riserva that were particularly successful: 2008, 2003 and 2000. The lucky few (and true connoisseurs) that will succeed in getting it remain mysterious: available in a very limited edition, this crate will be sold in the coming days directly from Panizzi.
Final highlight: the Consortium dinner
The Consortium of Vernaccia di San Gimignano was with us every step of the way: every year it acts as a spokesperson in front of visitors and the press for all its producers, underlining the importance of enhancing our important Denomination. On Tuesday 12, all producers of the Consortium that attended Vinitaly toasted to its 50 years at a dinner organized by the Consortium itself.
And our tastings? Unfortunately we did only three but great: Lis Neris, Podere Fortuna and Malojer Gummerhof with their outstanding Pinot Noir.
A vibrating energy at our booth and a lot of movement on the web (it was the first social edition for Panizzi): a feeling of renewal that has not gone unnoticed. Many visitors walked away from the stand with a special smile on their faces: maybe it was our welcoming mood, maybe the tastings, but the result, seen with our own eyes, was really positive.
See you all next year, then: the dates are already fixed. April 9 through 12, 2017: stay tuned!
