The passion for archery has brought him to the small screen, great soccer skills almost brought him a professional career. What else is hidden behind the face (in turn masked while doing the gardening works) of Paolo Montagnani, the last unveiled one of our #panizzipeople?
#panizzipeople 17: Paolo Montagnani
What's your job at Panizzi?
I am a gardener and maintenance technician at farmhouses Larniano and Santa Margherita.
What is the skill that those who do your job cannot absolutely lack?
As a gardener I'd say passion for beauty. As a maintenance technician, I'll say a certain obstinacy to make things work and bring them back to life. I can fix anything.
What do you like the most about your work?
Being out in the open relaxes me a lot. When it rains I work indoors and repair what needs to be repaired, but most of the time I am in the green and not in an assembly line or in an industrial place.
What did you do before working at Panizzi?
I worked as a maintenance man in a department store, I used to take care of the assembly of shelves, stands, corners, but I was always, in fact, in a closed place, so I felt caged and stressed.
What do you do in your free time? What are your passions?
I played football for 20 years as semi-professional player. Now that my body does not allow me to play anymore, I found archery. I founded a historical association focused on archery in Peccioli, my hometown in the province of Pisa, together with a group of friends. We organize a regional tournament and have a lot of fun. So much so that we were involved in the television series I Medici, where together with my companions I appeared as an extra in one of the scenes shot in November 2017 in Volterra. They needed archers who already knew how to hold the bow, and that they could act with no further help from the staff.
What is your favorite Panizzi wine?
I like the Vernaccia green label: just perfect for any luch or dinner.
What is your favorite place at Panizzi?
I like the spot next to the pool in Villa Laura when the lawn is freshly cut, all nice and neat. The lawn cut in this way reminds me of the time when I played football: with the grass cut like that you can run with one leg.
What is your favorite place in San Gimignano?
I'm from Peccioli, close to Pisa, but I know San Gimignano very well because I played soccer 5 years here. My favourite spot is Piazza del Duomo, on the church steps. Just sitting there and watching passers-by, with the Town Council on the right, the Theater in front of you, the Loggia... Nothing beats it.
