Giovanni Panizzi buys Santa Margherita, a farm located just outside the ancient walls of San Gimignano. There is a small vineyard. Gianni, just for fun, starts making wine for his friends but also perfects his own style.
With oenologist Salvatore Maule's advice, Gianni's technique is refined and in 1989 the first real grape harvest takes place. The following year Panizzi's first Vernaccia di San Gimignano, with its unmistakable label, is sold.
Panizzi's quality and style attractes the attention of critics and wine lovers. The vineyards area grows as well the number of bottles produced. Other wines (since 1990) are produced: Vernaccia di San Gimignano Reserve and Chianti Colli Senesi Vertunno.
Vernaccia di San Gimignano Riserva '98 Panizzi is awarded the 3 Glasses by the Gambero Rosso Italy's Wine Guide: it is the first time that a Vernaccia di San Gimignano get this coveted award.
A new wine is sold: San Gimignano Folgòre (1999 harvest). Also, 2003 is the year of the first harvest for a new Vernaccia di San Gimignano, one produced entirely with grapes from the vineyard from which everything originated: vigna Santa Margherita.
Giovanni Panizzi, while still managing the company, hands over the ownership to Luano Niccolai, which then hands it to his son Simone, who, in later years, transforms the company into a limited company, increases the vineyards area and expands the cellar.
Having steered the company in the hands of Simone and, with him, having drawn Panizzi's future, Giovanni Panizzi passes.
Panizzi did and will not stop! With the same spirit, the same idea of quality that has always distinguished it, Panizzi grows and improves day by day.
