Giovanni Panizzi, originally from Lombardia, was twelve years old when he first saw and felt in love with Tuscany, in particular Florence, Siena and San Gimignano. However, apart from short visits and seven months of military service in Florence, it was many years before his dream of being able to come back to Tuscany to live, was realised. In the meantime, he ran an azienda in Trezzo sull¹Adda, in the province of Milan and then set up a company dealing with industrial data. Finally in 1994, after 15 years of travelling back and forth to spend odd weekends at the “Podere Santa Margherita”, bought at San Gimignano in the hopes of one day being able to live there, Panizzi decided to move to San Gimignano and dedicate his time to running the farm. The farm began to develop and its original 4 hectares of vineyard became around 62 and now include another hectares of olives. To accomodate the increase in production, new cellars have been constructed besides the original cellar dug out of clay, where a part of our wines are aged in french oak barrels. Panizzi’s winery produces today around 300.000 bottles. The main production is Vernaccia di San Gimignano, the special white wine exclusive of this place, followed by Chianti Colli Senesi Vertunno, San Gimignano Rosso Folgòre, San Gimignano Cabernet Sauvignon Rubente and two IGT wines, Il Bianco di Gianni and Ceraso Rosa. In 2008 Panizzi estate is acquired by the Società Agricola Panizzi srl and starts to produce, with the buyout of an estate in Castelnuovo dell’Abate – Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino DOCG and Rosso di Montalcino DOC and, , with the buyout of an estate in Seggiano, others IGT red of Tuscany. Moreover he produces also around 1000 bottles of extra-virgin olive oil recognised from U.M.A.O. like one of the best italian olive oil. Panizzi’s wines had great recognisement from International Wine Challenge, Gambero Rosso, L’Espresso, Duemilavini, Italy Best Wines and a lot of appreciative opinion from specialized publications like I vini di Vinorelli, Enogea, Wine Spectator, Duemila Vini, Guida ai vini italiani, ecc.
